I was introduced to Markland my senior year of college in 1998.  I graduated from Moore College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  I entered the world with hope and ambition of becoming a working artist.  I became enchanted with the idea of medieval reenactment and as a result my art and my hobby merged.  Throughout my time in Markland I have been inspired to create many things from puzzle mugs to a drinking penis.  I also learned soap making and merchant my wares.  I am now fluent in costume design and I consider myself an expert at Celtic knotwork.  But my greatest inspiration so far is for my paintings.  My love of fighting epically inspires me to add weapons to my work.  The beauty and mysticism of my art is uniquely counterpoised by swords , axes, and spears.  Markland has given me more than inspiration for art but has given me a place to feel welcome and a place where I can be myself.  Fighting helps me deal with frustration from mundane life and now that I move into piracy, there is even more hope and inspiration.

My parents were amongst the original settlers of Bermuda.  They meet and were married and in 1650 had me, Deborah O’Wynn.   Being the youngest of 4 and the only girl I was raised mostly by my brothers.  I was a tomboy and was very rebellious.  I frequented the waterfront were I made friends with many swarthy men.  I eventually longed to live the life of a pyrate*.  Not having much hope for me, my parent’s influence was minimal, so in 1670 I set sail as a man, as a pyrate.  My masculine cover was blown not to long after we set sail and my true identity was unveiled.  Typically women were not allowed on board but my captain once sailed under Charlotte de Berry and he accepted me.  Our crew sailed the Caribbean were we encountered many ships and fought many battles.  My captain took ill in 1675 and I found myself in search of a new crew.  At Port Royal I signed on with The Pirates of the Lost Cause a swarthy and ruthless bunch.  I have been with them ever since plundering and thieving our way over the seas.

*There were many ways to spell "Pirate" back in the 17th and 18th centuries, including "Pirate", "Pyrate", "Pirat", etc.
