I have made a name for myself in Markland in various fields of of study: I have cooked many a field feast, some as small as myself and a few of my camp mates to most of Markland itself. I have held an Arts and Sciences competition and I enjoy being on the field of battle. I will try almost anything once and search for new ways to enrich my experience and the experience of others in the hobby.
Yarrgh! I be Catherine La Verte, more commonly known as “Blood Boob” the pirate. Pirate aboard the Lost Cause.
I was born a pirate on the great ship the Black Dagger. Me mother was a fine woman of proper standings in society who was kidnapped and brought upon the Black Dagger during a raid of the French settlement in Haiti. When the captain found that his hostage was pregnant he refused to accept her ransom until after she gave birth and was able to hide her lack of innocence to those paying her ransom. When she had recovered from giving birth she was delivered to her father for her ransom price.
The crew of the Black Dagger raised me as only a pirate can. I learned everything there is to know about sea vessels and keeping them. Also about cooking as you can guess that was one of my first tasks given to me. I helped in the galley until I was old enough and strong enough to help above deck. I learned the riggings and how to steer the ship and fly the sails. I helped with many a raid. Playing the damsel in distress was my favorite part.
We worked together as a crew and as a family. The men I bunked with treated me as a daughter and when I was old enough a sister and a wife. These men watched out for me like I cannot imagine any other pirate crew would do. We pillaged many a town by my eighteenth summer. I was always with the shore parties. When one of our mates were in trouble we did our best to save’m which sometimes did become leaving them behind. We always drank to the memory of the one’s we lost, and tried to lose as few as possible.
I learned of my mother after my twentieth birthday. The captain approached me in the early morning when none of the others were awake and told me the story of my life. This was the most the captain had spoken to me as long as I had been on the ship. I wonder if he regreted not sending me with her. I was of course angry and immediately began planning a mutiny. My mind was racing with thoughts of hatred and death. I don’t know why knowing made me miss her, I never had before. What did I need her for? My shipmates had taken care of everything I ever needed. But I was so angry with the captain I took his ship from him. It was eerie how he really didn’t even fight back. He wasn’t an evil man or even a bad captain. I just needed to do it. I am sure that now every one of those scurvy dogs that helped me regrets it. The ones who are still alive.
After I commanded the Black Dagger I went into a rage and attacked every ship that came into sight. The crew followed me into many a suicide mission. And yet every time we came out alive. Until we came upon four Spanish man of wars. Our ship was already laden with gold as we approached our dooms. Never had I seen such a slaughter. Only three months after I took control of the Black Dagger I sent her and most of her crew to Davy Jones’ locker. Of the few of us that survived most were hanged. I only managed to escape by bribing the guards, killing them, and stealing clothes from a near by shop. I was not able to help my crewmates escape. I was to be the last one hanged and part of my punishment was watching them die.
As I snuck away from the execution I vowed revenge upon the Spanish and sink every ship I see sailing Her flag. I have been on two other ships before joining with the fine crew of the Lost Cause. Those two ships refused to keep me on board. They believed me to be terrible luck with what happened to the Black Dagger. They took me one port and left me on the rocks.
I was barely scraping by when I found the Lost Cause. Starving in the streets when I was once a rich and well known pirate. I signed on in late fall and have since been sailing with this brave and loyal crew. It is not like the Black Dagger I grew up on. But it is now home. There is no ruling body on this ship but a crew of equals all loyal to each other. I am amazed at how efficiently she sails. I cannot wait for her first raid while I am onboard. I want to see us ransack and pillage with the efficiency we use every day. It will be a sight for all to see.
Until then……
